Computer Science (CS) is the study of the theory, design, development, application, and management of computer systems. Northwestern Polytechnic University (NPU) offers a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree that will give you the theoretical and practical knowledge you need to succeed in this rapidly growing field.
1: What is Computer Science?
Computer Science is a four year bachelor’s degree program offered by NPU. Computer Scientists study the design, construction, and operation of computer systems, as well as how to apply them to problems in science, engineering, business, and other areas. They work closely with electrical engineers and others who develop hardware and software for these systems.
With the rapid advancement of technology, there is a large demand for Computer Scientists. Graduates from NPU’s program will be prepared to work in the information technology industry or go on to pursue master’s and doctoral degrees in computer science.
2: What are the Benefits of Studying Computer Science?
Computer Science is the study of computers and computational systems. As technology becomes increasingly more integrated into our everyday lives, Computer Scientists are needed to develop future breakthroughs in technology.
3: What are the Job Opportunities for Computer Science Graduates?
Computer Science is the hottest field in technology. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projects that job opportunities for Computer Scientists will increase by 22% by 2018, which is much faster than average.
After completing their bachelor’s degree in CS, NPU alumni can look forward to career options in research and development, management consulting, financial services, software publishing, web development, and information technology.
4: What is the Course Curriculum for NPU’s Computer Science Degree?
Programming is the foundation of Computer Science, and throughout their coursework, students will become proficient in various programming languages, including C++, Java, Python, HTML & CSS.
Students are also required to take business math classes that includes accounting skills for working with information technology budgets. They are taught about human-computer interaction design principles for creating easy to use and intuitive interfaces.
The capstone course of the program is a year long team project where students work together on open-ended problems facing industry partners. For this project, students must demonstrate teamwork and develop their communication skills, along with advanced knowledge of software engineering, database design, and web architecture.
5: How Do I Apply to NPU?
The admissions process for NPU is quite simple. Just submit the Common Application along with your high school transcripts, take the SAT or ACT exams to demonstrate your math and English abilities, and send in a $100 application fee to be considered for admission.
Once you are accepted, you’ll need to complete the financial aid process by filing out the FAFSA application demonstrating that you are eligible for Title IV federal student aid.
After filing the FAFSA, you’ll receive an award letter in the mail containing your financial aid package. If accepted to NPU, congratulations! You have been awarded a merit scholarship of $18,000 per year towards tuition fees at NPU. This means you will only need to pay $26,000 in tuition out of pocket.
If you are interested in studying computer science, Northwestern Polytechnic University is the perfect place for you. Their award-winning faculty will provide you with the theoretical foundation that you need to develop into a successful computer scientist.
